Holidays 2022 in Zakopane

Holidays 2022 in Zakopane

13 December 2021

10 reasons why Zakopane is a winter wonderland and the perfect place for winter holidays 2022.

Winter in the Tatra Mountains means sledging, snowball battles and making snowmen together. If you spend your winter holidays in Zakopane, you're lucky!

1. Admire the views from the highest located Restaurant in Poland at the top of Kasprowy Wierch.

Restaurant Poziom1959 is located in the building of the upper station of Polish Cable Railways on the top of Kasprowy Wierch. The main restaurant room is located at an altitude of 1959 metres, which indeed makes it the highest located restaurant in Poland. From the top, there are exceptional views. You can admire the High Tatras and the Western Tatras, as well as Zakopane and nearby villages comfortably nestled in valleys at the foot of the mountains.

2. Morskie Oko.

"Morskie Oko", is the largest Tatra lake with a length of 862 m. Morskie Oko and the magical valley leading to it, Dolina Rybiego Potoku, are considered the most beautiful corners of the Tatras. It is necessary to get to the base by bus. From there, it's about a two-hour walk along a trail full of stunning views. The advantage? One of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

3. Taste the smoked cheese.

Oscypek is a delicious smoked cheese made from sheep's milk. It is a local delicacy and you will find stands selling it all over Zakopane and many other mountain huts throughout the region. The recipe for oscypek is strictly observed and dates back to the 14th century.

4. Warm up with a glass of mulled wine.

Hot mulled wine, or Galician mulled wine, is common throughout the mountains. When the temperature drops, it is perfect to warm you up on those chilly autumn evenings. Locals drink it late into the evening after a long day in the mountains. If the mulled wine is too sweet, perhaps a few glasses of liqueur in the HALKA restaurant will make the evening more pleasant.

5. See architecture in the Zakopane style.

Take an Ariesbus trip to Chochołów and see the wooden architecture trail. Zakopane has its own architectural style. The buildings are known for reflecting the spirit of the Podhale region. The creator of this style is considered to be Stanisław Witkiewicz, who transformed the town in the late 19th century. Wood, rounded windows and detailed ornamentation can be seen on houses in various parts of the town. When going on an excursion, remember that near Chocholow rises the Gubalowka Foothills, which offer spectacular views of the Tatra Mountains.

6. Enjoy skiing.

Skiing in Zakopane can be as attractive as in the Swiss Alps.  There are plenty of family-friendly slopes, perfect for beginners. For the more advanced, Kasprowy Wierch offers world-class skiing and a three-kilometre downhill run from the top lift that gives skiers plenty of time to ride. And Aries Concierge will take care of tickets and passes. To meet the needs of skiing enthusiasts, we have arranged a Joyride ski equipment rental in the hotel.

7. Rise without effort and enjoy the views.

For a more leisurely time, take the cable car up to Gubałówka. At the top you certainly won't be disappointed. On a sunny day you can enjoy stunning views of the Tatras, Zakopane and the surrounding valleys.

8. Relax and unwind in the thermal pools.

After sightseeing in Zakopane, take a break to rest and relax in the thermal pools - the largest in Podhale Terma Chochołowskie. In the heart of the mountains awaits you outdoor and indoor pools, water slides, whirlpool baths and many other attractions for families with children.

9. Dog sledding.

Discover the sound of a sledge sliding through the snow, the stamping of dogs running with the sled and soak up the mountain air. The driver stands on the runners and the passengers can sit back and enjoy the ride. There is the added thrill of driving the dog sled yourself, but the clever huskies often dispose of the inexperienced driver by cutting a sharp corner. Ask Aries Concierge for details.

10. Winter in Zakopane.

Winter in the Tatra Mountains means sledging, snowball battles and making snowmen together. If you spend your winter holidays in Zakopane, you are the lucky winner!
