Superbly located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, Zakopane has been attracting tourists for decades. It is a hiker’s dream place with numerous hiking paths waiting to be explored. From healing hot springs to spectacularly unique architecture, extraordinary villas and buzzing Krupówki, the city has so much to offer. There are countless incredible spots to discover!
Summer
In the summer Zakopane is a regular plethora of colors and a crucible of cultures. Above all, this is the time when you can admire the local architecture in all its glory, get inspired by the regional folklore and hike on the breathtaking, panoramic Tatra trails. Popular attractions include hiking, relaxing in one of the nearby thermal pools, rafting, ballooning or having breakfast at the Level 1959 restaurant on top of the Kasprowy Wierch peak. When visiting Zakopane, it is also worth seeing Wielka Krokiew ski jump, tasting oscypek - (a regional delight and internationally famous smoked cheese) in a genuine shepherd’s hut and enjoying highlander bands live musical performances.
Winter
Winter in Zakopane is a perfect season for all white frenzy lovers. Admiring the scenic views of the surrounding Tara peaks while skiing is an absolute pleasure. There are over 20 stations and ski resorts of varying difficulty in the immediate surroundings of the city. There are plenty of ski schools offering ski & snowboard lessons. Undoubtedly the most important event of the season is the Ski Jumping World Cup held at Wielka Krokiew jumping hill in Zakopane. Huge crowds gather around the ski jump and the majority of the city’s inns, restaurants and bars organize fan zones.
