PTTK Tourist's House Zakopane

Tourist and cultural legend of Zakopane:
PTTK Tourist's House in Zakopane.

A remarkable place with a unique history

The ram, one of the symbols of Podhale, became the patron saint of a five-star hotel and once again breathed life into a building that is as iconic as the Kasprowy Wierch railroad itself. The Tourist House has gone down in the pages of its colorful history as one of the most important places on the map of Zakopane - a cultural center of the city, a meeting place for Zakopane's bohemians, people of science and art, and above all a home for all lovers of mountain hiking and tourists fascinated by the beauty of the Tatra Mountains.

PTTK Tourist's House

Old across the threshold with the new

A modern, yet visionary design from the 1950s that defined the hostel's New Westphalian style. With an impressive body, patio and roof entirely covered with shingles, with nearly 320 beds. The building is unique both in terms of architecture and atmosphere, as the interiors were designed by excellent Zakopane artists - Władysław Hasior and Antoni Kenar, but also by the Brzozowski, Górski and Fajkosze families.

The accommodation facility, whose domain became art, culture, and cabaret, also housed a well-known mountain bookstore, the "Pegasus" gallery, and the MPiK café, where one could read newspapers, unavailable elsewhere at the time, over coffee in huge, comfortable armchairs.

Journey to the past

For more than 50 years of operation, the Tourist House has "raised" three generations. Great friendships were formed here, as well as love. Stories were born, which today's guests of Aries Hotel & SPA are now eager to share.

It is estimated that over 54 years of operation, the Zakopane PTTK Tourist's House has been visited by more than 5 million tourists. That's 5 million stories, drying pairs of shoes and mountain expeditions. It was here that during the peak season, service was provided by a 100-person staff, 1,000 meals were served daily and accommodations were sold "on the floor," which are still the subject of numerous memories and anecdotes.
