he Aries brand has been awarded the title of Hotel Brand of the Year 2023. This is the first time a Polish brand can boast this designation.

Aries - a well-established brand known for its distinctive hotels in mountain resorts. Objects deeply rooted in local tradition and culture, associated with the history of the region. Suffice it to mention the unique past of the object located in Zakopane, the iconic PTTK Tourist House, once a hallmark not only of Zakopane architecture, but also a destination for many generations of tourists. Maintained in the style of mountain chalets, the PTTK Tourist House played an important role in local culture for yet another reason. In addition to the names of well-known architects, prominent Zakopane artists-artists and sculptors-took part in the creation of this place. It is worth quoting such names as Kenar, Hasior, or Pecuch to imagine the scale of the undertaking that was the creation of the Tourist House. No less important is the role that the building has played since its inception - in addition to the natural, touristic one, i.e. a place where Tatra enthusiasts and true mountain lovers met, the Tourist House was also a mainstay of all forms of art - a bookstore with local publications, the Pegasus art gallery operated here, and the then Kabaret Zaskroniec gave performances. It was also here that the then International Press and Book Club - the ancestor of today's EMPIK - conducted its activities, and where the Cabaret Confrontations for the Golden Horn of the Goat were held. Well. Let's take a look at the MPiK cafe. It was an unusual place - where, over coffee, in huge, comfortable armchairs, one could read newspapers, even foreign ones, not available elsewhere at the time. It was here, in the gray fumes of cigarette smoke, that never-ending discussions about life, mountains, art and more took place.

Unique architecture - an interpretation of the 1950s Zakopane style

What was actually the phenomenon of the Tourist House? It delighted tourists of the time, as well as today, first of all with its impressive architecture. Clearly reminiscent of its sister mountain hostels, such as the Murowaniec Hostel, it boldly combined elements traditionally associated with Podhale, with what had only appeared for the first time in local buildings. The building was designed in 1951 by then professors of the Wroclaw University of Technology, architects Zbigniew Kupiec and Tadeusz Brzoza, and, importantly, won first prize in a SARP architectural competition. Based on the competition design, a realization project was prepared, an interior design was prepared and the whole thing was supervised. The Tourist House thus became a distinctive representative of the Novozakopian style. It boasted a solution unique in all of Europe. It had the largest shingle roof at the time, with a considerable 6000m2. Above all, it was an accommodation facility and, for the time, very modern. The 84 rooms could accommodate a total of about 320 people. The most numerous was a 24-person room with bunk beds, but there were also 4 exclusive suites with bathrooms. The building was put into use in 1958, and already in the 1960s it became one of the most important places on the map of Zakopane, the cultural center of the city. It was a place where Zakopane bohemia met; where lectures and meetings with people of science and art were organized, as well as slide shows of extraordinary mountain treks.

Old across the threshold with the new

This is how excellent history and cherished traditions became the beginning of today's Aries Hotel, which today proudly enjoys recognition among Guests not only from Poland, but also gains positive reviews among Guests from the United States, the Arab Emirates, or our Slovak and Czech neighbors. The property, which continues its excellent traditions every day, delights with its unconventional interiors, which perfectly blend mountain and Tatra motifs. Raw metal, natural leathers, wood and numerous details alluding to the art of the Podhale region are part of an inspiring philosophy that continues every day.
